Port Colborne woman killed in Hwy. 406 crash

WELLAND
A 21-year-old Port Colborne woman died from injuries received Wednesday in a crash on Highway 406.
Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police highway safety
division for Niagara are investigating the 6:40 p.m. crash. Police said
two vehicles collided on Highway 406 just south of Woodlawn Avenue. A
Toyota Echo was northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and
collided with a southbound Chevrolet cargo van with four occupants.
The van was operated by a 38-year-old Hamilton resident. Two
of the van occupants were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The
southbound lanes of Highway 406 were closed for one hour during the
initial investigation.
The driver and lone occupant of the Toyota, 21-year-old
Eleanor Burbidge of Port Colborne, was taken to Welland hospital. She
died of her injuries at 11 p.m.
Const. D. Wilson is investigating the collision, assisted by
the divisional traffic support unit. Witnesses to the crash are
